Shells

1. We recommend (and stock) 6-ply Maple shells for our Tenor and Bass Drums. Other ply combinations such as 5, 8 and 10-ply are readily available.
2. We use only premium quality VSS (Vibrating Sound Source) shells and are chosen because they have more internal vibrations, which is transferred to the head- creating more resonance, and response from the drum.
3. Upgrades can also be made to VSS Birch & Acrylic 1/4″ shells, & Carbon Fiber- See our price list for details

Bearing Edges

The standard bearing edge on all NM Custom Drums are “Double 45′s” although other edges can be cut such as single 45′s, and round overs. Please request upon inquiry of drums.

Reinforcement Rings

Due to the size & regular wear of tenor and bass drums our standard drums include 6-ply reinforcement rings. While provides stability to the 6-ply shell and also raise the fundamental pitch of the drum which ‘fattens’ the drum’s attack.

Lugs

Our ego custom machined lugs have been selected by weight, strength, as well as visual appeal, and flexibility. Our standard tube lug features Axial Alignment cross pins, which corrects misalignment of the tension rod and lugs, and prevents dreaded binding & stiff tension rods- which makes it easier to evenly tune your heads!

Our standard tube lugs are a rounded lug, and are sized to fit your chosen drum shell depth.  We also offer other custom styles such as a flat tops or low profile mini lugs.

Hoops

On our standard mid-section drums we use Modern Vintage Hoops (also known as the ‘Yamaha Style Wood Hoops’.) These hoops are known for being beefy, and durable yet low profile, and eye-catching appearance.

Unlike other tenor/bass drums, these hoops feature a clawless design that has the tension rods being fed directly through the middle of the hoop. This creates a true vertical tension rather than a warped hoop from a claws pressure over time.  They also feature ‘Hide-A-Head’, which creates a low profile look by hiding the metal hoop of the drum head. This increases head response and tone through the even tension and seating of the drum head.

Other custom options available are:

	Revolution Series: Featuring the hide-a-hoop option, these beautiful hoops hide the metal flange of the drum head, and use claws for tensioning the drum.   For Claw options, CLICK HERE
	Liberty Classics: These hoops leave the metal flange of the head exposed adding that vintage look to your drums. They have been cut for maximum seating contact between head and hoop to prevent pinching.                 For Claw options, CLICK HERE
	Evolution Hoops: Using custom machined hoop lugs, we are able to create the Modern Vintage hoop concept by using Revolution or Liberty hoops with center mounted hoop lugs. 	2.33 Triple Flanged Hoops: Quality metal hoops, similar to the standard model found on commercial sets. These hoops are popular on toms and snare drums. Available in sizes up to 18″
	Single Flanged Vintage: These hoops are a single flange hoop held on by metal hooks. Similar to the wooden Liberty hoops concept. They are light in weight, and give an open, fat, vintage tone and appearance. Available in sizes up to 18″.

Drum Heads

Here at NM custom drums, the drum heads we use are your choice! The standard heads on our drums are Aquarian Articulators batters and Evans clear Reso heads. Custom order heads can be ordered if needed and may become upgrade in cost.

HeadArt- Traditionally, bass drums would have the bands artwork displayed on the bass drum, and until now- there have only been a handful of sources. We are pleased to announce we can provide the EXACT same product, at a fraction of the price!!!!! Providing us with the proper image files we need, we can than forward that to our printer and get it put on clear Aquarian Articulator heads. The bass head chosen by many bass players today. 

Drum Carry Hooks

Traditional hoop mounted carry hooks transfer the weight of the drum every step as tension into the hoop. This provides uneven tensioning across the top head. Our “Torque-less” carry system is mounted to the shell. This permits the player to hook at a regular hoop height for the natural feel and comfort and for our hoops to resonate freely. There is always an even tension throughout the drumhead with every step you take.

Powder Coating

NM Custom Drums is proud to offer custom powder coating. This option provides an endless amount of colors to you, and provides the last unique touch to your instrument.

Custom Drum Badges

Our standard company badges are either squared or oval shaped and cut into corresponding colored plates to match the custom finish of your drums.  We can arrange for custom badges with your name, band’s name or even logo engraved for the extra custom touch.
